　　When you first learn to translate, you are often at a loss because of punctuation. Improper use of punctuation can lead to a sentence becoming another meaning. Today, the translation company introduces how to use punctuation in translation?

　　一般人遇上標(biāo)點(diǎn)符號(hào)，總有一種肅然起敬的感覺(jué)，把它當(dāng)成一種特殊的對(duì)象來(lái)看待，殊不知標(biāo)點(diǎn)符號(hào)，根據(jù)字典的解釋，不過(guò)是“字旁或字下面的點(diǎn)形、線形等各種符號(hào)，用以標(biāo)明人名、地名或點(diǎn)、逗、句讀”而已。換言之，標(biāo)點(diǎn)符號(hào)是語(yǔ)文的附屬部分，翻譯時(shí)，既然連詞性句形都可以改變，那么，譯者何以要死守陣地，揪住原文中的幾個(gè)符號(hào)而不肯放手?

　　When people encounter punctuation, they always have a sense of awe. They regard it as a special object, but they don't know that punctuation. According to the dictionary, it's just "punctuation, line and other symbols beside or under the words, used to indicate the names of people, places or points, teasing and sentences". In other words, punctuation is a subsidiary part of Chinese. Since the conjunctions can be changed in translation, why should translators cling to the position and grasp several symbols in the original text instead of letting go?

　　英文中常用的一些符號(hào)，如長(zhǎng)句中的括號(hào)、破折號(hào)，同位語(yǔ)前后的逗號(hào)，以及副詞單獨(dú)出現(xiàn)后的逗號(hào)等，在中文里是很少使用的。假如譯者在學(xué)習(xí)寫作或嘗試詩(shī)句翻譯，則又另當(dāng)別論。

　　Some symbols commonly used in English, such as brackets, dashes in long sentences, commas before and after appositions, and commas after adverbs appear alone, are rarely used in Chinese. If the translator is learning to write or trying to translate the poem, it is another matter.

　　當(dāng)然，例外的情況也有。例如超現(xiàn)實(shí)主義小說(shuō)《黑娃的故事》中某些片段，往往長(zhǎng)達(dá)十行，其中關(guān)系子句環(huán)環(huán)相扣，步步連營(yíng)，而主句之外層層疊疊的內(nèi)容，必須靠括號(hào)或破折號(hào)來(lái)交代。為了再現(xiàn)原著濃厚的超現(xiàn)實(shí)主義色彩，在翻譯時(shí)就不得不酌量保持一些原文中特有的表現(xiàn)方式，而平時(shí)不常使用的破折號(hào)，也在譯文中頻頻出場(chǎng)了。

　　Of course, there are exceptions. For example, some fragments in the Surrealist novel "the story of Heiwa" are often as long as ten lines, in which the relative clauses are closely linked, and the contents outside the main sentences are overlapped, which must be explained by brackets or dashes. In order to reproduce the strong surrealist color of the original work, we have to maintain some unique ways of expression in the original text, while the dashes, which are not often used in translation, also appear frequently in the translation.
